TRC Talent Solutions is partnering with a leading engineering organization specializing in building automation and advanced control systems to identify a Lead Control Systems Engineer. The company delivers complex automation solutions across commercial and industrial environments and is focused on strengthening its technical leadership bench for large-scale, mission-critical projects.
This role is responsible for leading the design, configuration, and onsite execution of building automation and control system projects. The Lead Control Systems Engineer will oversee multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage instrumentation and electrical design activities, and lead system commissioning and startup efforts. The position requires strong technical depth in PLC/DDC systems, HVAC control logic, and field integration, along with the ability to guide teams through full project lifecycles from design through commissioning.
Provide technical leadership and support for a project team of approximately 25 engineers
Support change order development through hardware estimation and engineering effort analysis
Develop instrument lists based on P&ID drawings
Select and evaluate instrumentation including transmitters, flow meters, and valve actuators
Select and configure control system hardware for project requirements
Prepare submittals for control panels and instrumentation equipment
Design panel layouts and electrical schematics for control enclosures
Support procurement of project hardware and materials
Provide technical support to panel fabrication and assembly teams
Inspect completed control panels for quality and compliance
Lead customer design review meetings and technical coordination sessions
Configure HMI interfaces, DDC, PLC, and DCS control logic
Perform internal testing, functional validation, and system documentation
Support customer demonstrations and acceptance testing activities
Install software and configuration on site systems during deployment
Perform loop checks, calibration, tuning, and functional system testing
Support field modifications and system optimization during startup
Experience with building automation or industrial control systems
Proficiency with platforms such as Rockwell Automation (ControlLogix, FactoryTalk), Schneider Electric (Modicon, AVEVA), Inductive Automation Ignition, Distech, or Niagara
Strong understanding of HVAC systems, sequences of operation, and control strategies
Experience interpreting P&IDs, electrical schematics, and single-line diagrams
Knowledge of instrumentation, control valves, and plant utility systems
Experience with low-voltage electrical systems and subcontractor coordination
Onsite commissioning and startup experience required
Familiarity with Good Automated Manufacturing Practices (GAMP) standards
